You can serve your Aperol Vodka Cocktail in anything you'd like, but I really love to serve them in my cocktail coupes ( the same that are in the pictures for this post ), because they give a sort of craft feel that really brings home that this is NOT the Cosmo you felt so adult ordering in the first bar you ever legally entered. Admit it - this cocktail with Aperol feels ( and tastes ) SO much more adult than the old fashioned version, doesn't it?! Its vibrant color comes from the Italian aperitivo Aperol, a bright-red bittersweet liqueur based on oranges and several herbs, that when combined with a bit of lime juice, gives the same tart bite that cranberry would usually give this drink. Inspired by a cocktail at one of my favorite bars in downtown Charleston, this updated Cosmopolitan doesn't have any of that pesky cranberry juice diluting it. You're going to love this Aperol cocktail because it's perfectly tart with just enough sweet to balance out the bitterness. ![]() We're making a real, grown-up cocktail with Aperol and Vodka today. Save the cranberry juice for a Christmas punch, leave the triple sec on the bar, and for the love of all that is holy, put those Sex and the City style martini glasses back on the shelf ( but feel free to mock me when I use mine again in like four weeks. Try Crostinis with your choice of toppings, Mini Quiche or Smoked Salmon Appetizer Bites, or have a browse through all my Party Foods.Ĭosmopolitan Cocktails would also pair beautifully with a homemade Gravlax. It's time to let that classic cranberry and vodka creation go and welcome a new friend into your adult cocktail repertoire. I think Cosmos are the sort of cocktail that are ideal to serve with finger food. Plus, it’s a pretty short drink (as opposed to large volume tall drinks like Tequila Sunrises) so you don’t fill up on cocktails before dinner.Īnd while I say they’re a classy drink, I also think of Cosmos as fun too! Think – Girls’ Nights Out (well, nights IN!), Bachelorette Parties, Christmas (on theme colour!), Thanksgiving, and other holiday occasions! What to serve with Cosmos The extra little fragrance you get as you drink the Cosmopolitan drives home the orange flavour and is really lovely! When to serve Cosmopolitan CocktailsĬosmos are one of those cocktails that are quite elegant so they’re ideal to serve at dinner parties as a pre dinner drink. Just pour everything into a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake well to chill, then strain into a martini glass. With 3 full shots of alcohol, Cosmos are pretty potent!! How to make Cosmopolitan Cocktails Cointreau is a brand of triple sec, the best, in my opinion (certainly the most well known). Top shelf if your budget stretches that far….but I typically serve top shelf vodka straight.Ĭointreau – this is a clear orange flavoured liquor called triple sec. Use mid shelf because there’s quite a lot of vodka in Cosmos. Accidentally got unsweetened? Save it – make a simple syrup with equal parts sugar and hot water to dissolve, cool, then add as needed. ![]() too tart! You need the sweet cranberry juice to get the right balance of sweet. They are dangerously drinkable!Ĭranberry juice, SWEETENED – be sure not to use unsweetened cranberry juice, it’s very tart…. They taste of cranberry juice with orange (from the Cointreau), and though there’s a considerably slug of alcohol in it with equal parts alcohol to non alcohol, you can’t taste it very much. Cosmos are sweet with a touch of tang from lime.
